‘Work pace for Tura Medical College slower than expected,’ says Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma visited Tura on Thursday to take stock of the Convention Centre and the Track & Field Stadium which is currently under construction. During his visit, the Chief Minister interacted with the contractors and engineers overseeing the project. Sangma was accompanied by Meghalaya Football Association President Larsing Ming Sawyan. The Chief Minister is eyeing 2024 for both projects to be completed. The foundation stones for the Convention Centre and Track & Field Stadium were laid in April 2022. While the Convention Centre is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 24 crore, the Track & Field Stadium is being constructed with a budget of Rs 16 crore. Sangma also visited Doldegre, the construction site of the Tura Medical College. The visit comes a day after Meghalaya Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said that about 45 per cent of physical progress has been made on the construction of the medical college. The construction for the Rs 243-crore medical college and hospital began in January 2019. Of the total budget, Rs 172 crore is being provided by the central government.
