PANGKALAN BUN – The West Kotawaringin (Kobar) Regency Government reaffirmed its commitment to social welfare by launching the 2026 Love for Orphans and People with Disabilities Movement. The event, held at the Regent's Official Residence Hall, coincided with the commemoration of 10 Muharram 1448 Hijriah and served as a platform to strengthen concern for others. In her remarks, the Regent of West Kotawaringin, Hj. Nurhidayah, S.H., M.H., stated that this movement represents a form of collaboration and synergy between the local government and the Kobar Regency National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS). She emphasized that the collected zakat, infaq, and sadaqah funds will be directed towards productive programs that directly address the community's basic needs. "Let us welcome this blessed month with deeds that benefit the community's welfare and the well-being of the community, especially orphans and people with disabilities," said Regent Nurhidayah in her speech. This movement targets at least 1,120 orphans and children with disabilities across all sub-districts in West Kotawaringin Regency, including an additional 239 newly registered beneficiaries. The Regent emphasized that the distribution of this assistance is inclusive, encompassing children from different religious backgrounds, both Muslim and non-Muslim, as a manifestation of tolerance and the practice of the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) value. In addition to cash assistance, this synergy also includes various other strategic programs, such as: *Providing capital assistance for MSMEs to increase family economic independence. *Budgetary support for the Uninhabitable Housing (RTLH) program to provide communities with adequate housing. *Providing incentives for religious teachers of all faiths. The education sector is a major focus for Regent Nurhidayah. She announced changes to the policy for providing school assistance to elementary and junior high school students for the new academic year. Previously, assistance was provided in the form of goods (free uniforms), but now it has been shifted to cash to provide more flexibility for parents. The Regent emphasized that the use of these education funds would be strictly monitored by the Prosecutor's Office, the Police, and the Inspectorate to ensure they are properly targeted. "Education and health are basic needs. We want our human resources to excel, moving towards the goal of a Golden Indonesia 2045," he emphasized. On the occasion, it was revealed that fund management at the BAZNAS Kobar had seen significant improvement. As of May 2026, the collected funds had reached nearly IDR 7 billion, a sharp increase compared to previous years. Regent Nurhidayah encouraged all levels of Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD), the business community through CSR forums, and the wider community to continue supporting this movement by distributing ZIS (Zero Alms) to official institutions so that its benefits can be felt more widely and systematically in reducing poverty.
