Engineering Design Project – Self-Stabilizing Spoon for Independent Eating
Check out Handl, a Capstone Design Project by fourth-year Systems Design Engineering (SYDE) students Yosha Aneja, Nevedhaa Ayyappa, Mehak Dhaliwal, Arya Dixit and Aditi Sandhu. Inspired by loved ones who experience tremors, they designed a self-stabilizing utensil attachment to support independent eating. After consulting with stakeholders, they combined mechanical engineering, signal processing, control systems, hardware design and software engineering to develop a solution that is affordable, portable, and ergonomic! The team was awarded a prize at the Velocity AgeTech Innovation Challenge.
