Vienna Day Trip from Prague: Christmas Markets, Palaces & The BEST Sausage I’ve Ever Had

Day trip to VIENNA from Prague in December? 100% worth it, especially during the Christmas season! On December 7, 2025, my friend Marian and I hopped on a train from Prague to Vienna, Austria, for the day. The ride was just over 3 hours each way and honestly flew by. We spent the day exploring Vienna’s Christmas markets, historic palaces, and iconic landmarks — and I found the BEST sausage of my life at one of the Christmas markets. No joke. If you’re planning a Vienna day trip from Prague, or wondering what to do in Vienna in winter, here’s exactly where we went: Vienna Day Trip Itinerary: Vienna Hauptbahnhof - Arrived at Vienna’s main train station, super clean and easy to navigate Belvedere Palace - Stunning baroque architecture and gardens, even in December Imperial Palace / Hofburg Palace - The heart of the Habsburg empire, looks unreal in person The Burggarten - Beautiful park right next to Hofburg, perfect winter stroll St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Stephansdom) & Historic City Center - The vibe here during Christmas is magical Kunsthistorisches Museum & Maria-Theresien-Platz - The art & museum district, the buildings alone are worth it Wiener Christkindlmarkt (Christmas Markets) - I had the best sausage ever. 10/10 recommend - we ran out of time for Schönbrunn Palace; it’s a bit outside the city center, but it’s definitely top of my list for next time. Save this if you’re planning a Vienna winter trip! Trip Details: 📍 From: Prague → Vienna 🚆 Travel time: ∼3 hours each way by train 📅 Date: December 7, 2025 🎄 Season: Vienna Christmas Markets
