October 6, 2015 What motivates and worries organic farmers is explored by Sabine Baur in "37 Degrees: I'm Letting the Pig Out. Organic Farm Instead of Factory Farm," airing October 6 at 10:15 p.m. on ZDF. Together with his girlfriend Anja, he runs a leased farm according to organic standards. Dietmar and Almut's situation is similar: They are currently converting their farm, which they inherited from Dietmar's father, to organic farming. Their pigs now have free range. Ulrike Baur followed the two couples on the Swabian Alb for six months. In her documentary, the filmmaker highlights the concerns and motivations of modern organic farmers – but only delves into some aspects in depth. For example, there is a new development in agriculture: Organic farms are closing because they cannot operate within the strict EU regulations; documenting individual work steps is time-consuming and complicated, often hindering daily operations. And yet, Baur doesn't stop at the motivations of organic farmers; she also highlights the everyday worries they face. While we're accustomed to finding everything we crave in the supermarket every day, agriculture still depends on nature.
