Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest is a program of The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization and performance. Denise Burns, the Oklahoma State Poetry Out Loud Champion, placed third at the National Finals held in Washington, DC on April 30, 2013. "A March In The Ranks Hard-Prest, And The Road Unknown" by Walt Whitman was Ms. Burns's third recitation of the event.
