This week, the question "Is Nazism left-wing or right-wing?" returned to the media. IMB president Helio Beltrão was interviewed by O Globo on the topic and details his views in this video. To better understand the world, he reflects, instead of focusing on "left and right," why not consider three axes: economic freedom, individual freedom, and authoritarianism. From this perspective, it's easy to see the following similarities between Nazism and socialism: strict disarmament, persecution of opponents, control of the economy (production, prices), control of the individual (the common good and the State above individuals), and a class perspective. Whether you call it right-wing or left-wing, it's important to understand that Mao, Stalin, Hitler, and Mussolini are very similar and led similar regimes.
