Pre-Conditioning 250 Head
In this episode of Drummond Ranch, our crew is hard at work in the middle of pre-conditioning fall calves! Pre-conditioning is a tedious but essential part of ranching, focused on keeping our cattle healthy and thriving so they can make the most of the nutritious spring and summer grass ahead. It’s one of those behind-the-scenes jobs that doesn’t always get seen, but it plays a major role in the long-term success of the herd. Throughout the day, each cow and calf is gathered by the crew, sorted, and run through the chute to make sure vaccinations are up to date and everything is handled properly. It’s detailed, repetitive work that requires patience, timing, and a team that knows how to work together! Once they’ve been processed, the cows and calves are turned back out to their individual pastures, ready to continue growing. This kind of work is all about preparation and doing things the right way now to reduce stress on the calves and set them up for the months ahead. It’s a reminder that ranching isn’t just about the big moments, but the consistent, day-to-day work that keeps everything moving forward and ensures the cattle are cared for every step of the way!
