The mansion exterior was built in New Orleans Square during 1962 and 1963, but the attraction was delayed while Disney focused on the 1964–1965 New York World’s Fair. Imagineers later blended eerie atmosphere, theatrical illusions, dark humor, memorable music, and the continuously moving Omnimover ride system known as the Doom Buggies. The original Haunted Mansion opened at Disneyland on August 9, 1969. Magic Kingdom’s version opened with Walt Disney World on October 1, 1971. Its red-brick Colonial and Gothic-inspired exterior was designed to fit Liberty Square.
