The Benedictus is probably the most beautiful movement of the Mass. This mass is often called "Spatzenmesse" or "Sparrow Mass" because of the violin figures in the Hosannas of the Sanctus and Benedictus, which are thought to resemble the sound of a bird chirping. Whether this chirping sound was intentional or not is open to debate. However, musical historians do agree that , later in his life, Mozart had a beloved pet bird that would actually sit on his shoulder while he would create his scores.
