Tecsun S-8800 Shortwave SSB Radio Daytime MW

The Tecsun S-8800 is an odd Beast. A field sized radio with Shortwave SSB capability. It lacks a few key features such as a Dedicated DC input, and a Variable RF Gain Control. It makes up for this with Excellent Audio, Metal Knobs, Dual 18650 Batteries, Clear Digital Display, and RCA Line Outs for Recording. During this Daytime Medium Wave Scan I find the radio has some imaging issues towards the top of the band. If you don't need a field size radio, the new Sangean 909X2 will make an excellent choice. A loop helps to bring it down to a nice level. If you need a Shortwave Radio with SSB in a Field Format then you may want to consider this radio. Use of external antenna gear will make a huge difference.
