First Start and Drive of the 1968 John Deere 110

This video was taken 3 weeks ago. After getting rid of the Troy-Bilt mower that I had to fix in exchange for the 110, I was finally able to pull the 110 out of the shed where it rested for a month. I took the mower deck off and pressure washed the whole tractor. It cleaned up really well for being 50 years old. I pulled it into the garage and began tinkering. It only took me a few minutes to wake up the Kohler K181 and bring the tractor back to life. I put gas and a new battery in it. The engine would crank over, but had no spark. I figured the points were corroded, so I sanded the points down and made sure there was spark at the contacts. It took a little bit of excessive cranking, but then I realized someone had installed a second sediment bowl just before the carburetor, and that sediment bowl was closed, restricting fuel flow. Don't know why they added a second bowl, because it's not really needed. But I made sure both sediment bowls had fuel flow, and then the old Kohler roared to life once again. It runs decent but will definitely need the carb and governor adjusted...it will only start at an idle, and sometimes stalls out if you advance the throttle. The tractor drives smoothly and the variator works, but it jumps out of every gear except 2nd, so the detent springs in the transaxle will need to be replaced. It also looks to have leaking axle seals, so I might as well just send the whole unit off to get rebuilt. Also, it appears to have a blown head gasket, so I will have the head milled and put a new head gasket in it. Otherwise, this 110 is in really nice shape and should make an easy project. It's so cool to own a tractor in such nice original condition. It's been very well maintained, and considering it was free, I guess I did pretty good.
