The Sad Truth About Volta Regional Library 😢 | 20+ Years of Abandonment
The Sad Truth About Volta Regional Library — 20+ Years of Abandonment 😢🇬🇭 The Ho-based Volta Regional Library project, once envisioned as a modern hub for education and knowledge, has become one of the most talked-about stalled projects in the region. Originally initiated during the era of former President John Agyekum Kufuor in the early 2000s, the project was designed to replace the region’s long-standing temporary library facilities and provide a state-of-the-art learning environment for students, researchers, and the general public. Historically, the Volta Regional Library has faced persistent infrastructure challenges. After being relocated multiple times over the decades, it was finally moved in 2003 to a temporary structure at the premises of Bankoe E.P. Junior High School to make way for the construction of a permanent, modern complex. However, what was expected to be a short-term transition turned into a decades-long wait. More than 20 years later, the new ultramodern library complex in Ho remains incomplete. Reports indicate that although the structure reached about 90% completion, it has been left abandoned, overtaken by weeds, and exposed to deterioration. Successive governments and regional authorities have made promises to complete the project. In 2017, the Volta Regional Minister at the time even assured the public that efforts would be made to finalize the facility—but progress has remained slow and inconsistent. Meanwhile, library services continue to operate from temporary and inadequate premises, limiting access to quality educational resources for thousands of residents. This is particularly concerning given the critical role libraries play in supporting literacy, digital skills, and academic success—especially in underserved communities. Ironically, despite the lack of a permanent facility, the Volta Regional Library has still contributed to education through initiatives like mobile computer training programs, helping students improve their ICT skills and exam performance. Today, the abandoned structure stands as a symbol of unfulfilled promises, stalled development, and neglect, raising serious questions: 👉 Why has the project taken over two decades without completion? 👉 What happened to the funding and political will? 👉 And when will the people of the Volta Region finally get the modern library they were promised? #building #buildinginghana #TrendingNow #MustWatch #GhanaTwitter #SpeakUp #Accountability #ChangeIsNeeded #WakeUpGhana #RealityCheck
