A small plane, registration number B-12PP, crashed into the CITIC Tower, Beijing's tallest building, yesterday evening (26th). According to a CNN report from Beijing, the crash occurred around 6 PM on the 26th. Media reports indicate that after the crash, a large amount of debris was scattered from the air to the ground, affecting passing vehicles. The base of the building also caught fire and emitted thick black smoke. Beijing police subsequently imposed traffic control in the area. According to some online information, the plane may have taken off from Beijing Pinggu Shifosi Airport at 5:30 PM and was preparing to return at 5:40 PM, but deviated from its flight path. Flight monitoring tracked the plane until it lost signal near the East Fifth Ring Road in Beijing, and subsequent contact with the aircraft was unsuccessful. The aircraft is a domestically produced light sport aircraft.
