When I was 43, I started Dressed in Joy from my tiny Brooklyn kitchen while I was still working a corporate job and raising two kids. I didn’t have a fashion degree. I didn’t know how to sew. I didn’t have a team, investors, or some big perfect plan. I had one hoodie sample, an idea I couldn’t shake, and a whole lot of fear about putting it out into the world. In this video, I’m sharing what it really felt like to start my fashion brand scared, why I almost talked myself out of it, and what I wish I understood back then about starting before you feel fully ready. If you’ve been carrying around an idea for a clothing line, product line, or first drop and you keep thinking you need more money, more experience, or more confidence before you begin, I hope this video gives you a little push. I also created Your First Drop, my no-inventory starter kit for turning the product idea in your head into an actual first drop.
