The 43rd IRINO PRIZE: Voyage for cl, vc and accordion by Zhuosheng JIN

The 43rd IRINO PRIZE, awarded in 2021, was jointly received by two composers, Zhuosheng JIN and Demian Rudel Rey. The winning composition of JIN, 'Voyage', was performed by Ensemble NOMAD at The 4th Irino Prize Chamber Music Concert in Tokyo in December 2025. Performers: N.Sato (conductor), H.Kikuchi(cl), T.Kikuchi(vc), and T.Ota(accordion) Programnote of 'Voyage' (2019): "Voyage" pays homage to Lin Huiyin, a talented woman from the era of the Republic of China. I first came across brief references to Lin Huiyin in her husband, Liang Sicheng's writings, which led me to explore her life story and read her works. In my heart, Lin Huiyin is a symbol—embodying the spirit of a generation of women, a trait that is now rare. To some extent, "Voyage" also acts as a tribute, an elegy for a bygone era. The prize is administered by the IRINO Prize Foundation, which was founded after his death on June 23,1980, by Mrs.Reiko Takahashi IRINO in collaboration with renowned composers Maki ISHII, Joji YUASA and Yori-Aki MATSUDAIRA. The IRINO PRIZE is awarded to young composers who explore new directions and demonstrate innovative creativity. The IRINO PRIZE consists of two categories; one for Chamber-Orchestral Work (between 9 and 17 instruments) held in even-numbered years, and another for Chamber Music (no more than 8 players, with or without electroacoustic component), held annually.
