Understanding Surrealism | Art History 101

This video lecture will delve into Surrealism, the art movement from the 1920-50s that took its inspiration from dreams and the subconscious. I will explain the historical contexts of the movement, and we examine art from a variety of artists across the globe, focusing on Salvador Dali, Frida Kahlo, Meret Oppenheim, Remedios Varo, Man Ray, Rene Magritte, and Max Ernst. This is a great introduction to Surrealism, especially for middle- to high schoolers!
