In a new series from a joint project between the Russian State Arctic and Antarctic Museum and the Arctic Development Project Office (PORA), we explore the pioneer of polar themes in Russian fine art, Alexander Borisov. A northern explorer, traveler, student of Shishkin and Kuindzhi, and author of the book "At the Samoyeds: From Pinega to the Kara Sea," in which he vividly and engagingly described the lives of the Nenets, the indigenous people of the northern lands.
