Those who partake in this way despise the meaning of the body and blood of Christ and are held accountable before God for this lack of reverence. 2. Self-Examination for Proper Participation (1 Corinthians 11:28-29) God's response is not to abstain from the Lord's Supper, but to examine one's heart. Each believer must evaluate their motives, recognize the sacred nature of the elements, and consider their relationship with Christ and the church. After self-examination and repentance, the command is to participate in the Lord's Supper, not to abstain. 3. God's Discipline for Unworthily Participating (1 Corinthians 11:30-32) When believers do not examine themselves and participate unworthily, God may discipline them. This discipline may manifest as weakness, illness, or even physical death, but it is not about losing salvation. Rather, it is a paternal correction to lead His children to repentance and prevent them from being condemned with the world. 4. The Solution for a Church That Participated Unworthily (1 Corinthians 11:33-34) Paul concludes by offering a practical solution: wait for others, act with love, and stop using the Lord's Supper to satisfy hunger. If someone is hungry, they should eat at home. The Lord's Supper is a time of worship and remembrance of Christ's sacrifice, so it should be celebrated with reverence, unity, and brotherly love. ◉ Conclusion: The Lord's Supper should be celebrated with reverence, remembering that it is a command from Christ and a time to honor His sacrifice, not to focus on ourselves. Before participating, we should examine ourselves, repent of our sins, and approach with a heart willing to love and be reconciled with our brothers and sisters.
