The Otabisho-sai (temporary shrine festival) / Dedicatory Dance Procession, which took place in front of Palette Kumoji, arrived at the "Palette Kumoji Square," and the Otabisho-sai was held. The festival featured powerful lion dances by the Naminoue-gu Lion Dance Preservation Society and the Shuri Sueyoshi-cho Lion Dance Preservation Society, as well as Ryukyu dances and karate performances. The Shinko-sai (divine procession) in which the Naminoue-gu Lion Dance Preservation Society participates is held as a highlight of the Nanmin-sai, the largest festival of Naminoue-gu Shrine, held annually in mid-May. A procession carrying the deity parades through the town, and traditional lion dances and other performances are grandly dedicated. Nanmin-sai "Shinko-sai" and Lion Dance Schedule: The Shinko-sai is usually held on the final day (Sunday) of the two-day Nanmin-sai. Naminoue Shrine Lion Dance Preservation Society (Quoted from their website) The Naminoue Shrine Lion Dance Preservation Society performs at Naminoue Shrine festivals and various local events and festivals! Currently, there are over 40 members. They play an important role as the lion dancers for warding off evil and purifying the heavens and earth in the four directions at the Nanmin Festival and Setsubun Festival. Furthermore, they perform lion dances at various events, mainly in Naha City, as well as at local events such as the Wakasa Community Center Mochi-making Festival, the Wakasa Regional Cultural Festival, and the Juriuma Festival, every year. Naminoue Shrine has had lion dances since before the war, and at the Nanmin Festival and on "Hatsuka Shogatsu" (January 20th), the lion dancers would tour the towns of Wakasa and Tsuji-machi, praying for the protection of evil and the safety of families, creating a lively atmosphere. The original lion's head was destroyed in the war, but it was revived in August 1959 thanks to the efforts of the Naminoue-dori Association. The association took its current form in March 2001.
