The Essential Discs of Sonny Rollins by Award Winning Journalist, Ted Panken, Part. I

From former Sonny Rollins publicist, Terri Hinte: hi Ted, "I listened to Ted's discussion with Ken Micallef with great interest! We will be sharing it (& the future episodes) on Sonny's social media pages. "I want to call a very few minor points to your attention. First, the "Blue 7" brouhaha was started by Gunther Schuller. Martin Williams later joined the pile-on on several occasions, including the liner notes for a 1964 reissue of Saxophone Colossus, but Schuller was ground zero. The story of Sonny's father's Navy service and his court martial is detailed in Aidan Levy's biography of Sonny; Aidan's account of the reversal of the court martial appears in the current issue of The Nation. Sonny was born and raised in Harlem, but his entire family is from the U.S. Virgin Islands - his mother from St. Thomas, his father from St. Croix. His older brother & sister, too, were born in St. Thomas. Looking forward to the next episode. :)
