Regional POLREGIO Trains Railroad Crossing. POLREGIO is a train operator in Poland, responsible for local and interregional passenger transportation. POLREGIO is the largest passenger carrier in Poland. Almost 1,900 of its trains run on tracks throughout Poland every day, and around 230,000 people use them every day. In 2023 it carried 97,3 million passengers. POLREGIO provides passenger rail transport services. The vast majority of the tasks performed by the carrier are public service activities, which are provided at the request of the marshal's offices - organizers of regional rail transport, based on contracts concluded for the provision of public services. As part of its public mission, the company carries out rail transport using domestic and cross-border Regio trains and international trains ordered by the minister responsible for transport. Until the end of August 2015, the company launched long-distance Interregio connections of a commercial nature, which complement the basic transport offer, as well as interregiobus bus connections. The company also cooperates with other carriers in the scope of: mutual ticket sales, current passenger information and technical maintenance of rolling stock. Since 2019, the Company has been developing a commercial segment of its operations under the new name superREGIO. SR trains currently run between Krakow/Katowice and Zator, and Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski and Wrocław. The company's share in the Polish passenger rail transport market is around 27% in terms of the number of passengers carried, and around 50% in terms of operational work measured in train-kilometres. Operational work in 2017 amounted to 51.1 train-km, in 2018 49.7 train-km. The company was founded in 2001 from the splitup of the PKP Passenger Transport Sector of the once-unitary Polskie Koleje Państwowe national rail operator into several companies to meet European Union requirements.
