Garmin 396 update

This is an updated review of the Garmin 396 LMT. My initial review was during August 2020. Since that review, I have done several long-distance rides and have become more familiar with the various configuration options and accompanying apps. The major focus of this video is a discussion of the routing configurations available. Garmin gives three types within the Zumo family; Fastest, Shortest, and Garmin Adventurous route. Fastest and shortest routes are pretty self-explanatory. Garmin Adventurous routing can give confusing route directions. That’s until you understand what the device is programmed to perform. Garmin Adventurous is focused solely on curvy, hilly, and freeway avoidance routes. This route configuration is not the fastest and/or shortest route. The priority is all about curves, hills, and avoiding major freeways. That’s not a bad thing unless you are navigating an urban setting, large city, or just trying to get from point A to B the quickest. Overall I am quite satisfied with this product. It is not the newest. Some of the features are lacking, such as screen resolution, 480 vs. 1280p, and not topo mapping. But It’s $170 less than its newest cousin, Zumo XT.
