Giving up everything here in Switzerland and starting a new life abroad. Many dream of it, but few actually do it. "Up and Away" accompanies Swiss emigrants to Australia, Dubai, Canada, Venezuela, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. All of them are leaving, all of them are saying goodbye, and all of them are a little afraid. Get to know our emigrants: Former Tagesschau presenter Hansjörg Enz. He wants to work as a development worker in the Democratic Republic of Congo – in the middle of a crisis region repeatedly shaken by civil wars. The Schmid family, with their two young children, is taking the plunge into the Australian outback and moving to Alice Springs. Cabot Schmid wants to work there as a tour guide. The Maccioni family is moving with their two daughters to the desert emirate of Dubai; former Swissair pilot Reto Maccioni has found a job there with Emirates Airlines. Sandra and Duncan Gano have been saving for their dream for years, and now the time has finally come: they will be able to take over a farm in Canada. And Claudio Candrian and Teres Brunett have decided they never want to work again and now want to build their dream home on Isla Margarita in the Caribbean. For a year, our cameras followed the Swiss emigrants in Switzerland and in their new homeland, capturing their daily lives, the highlights, and the low points of their new lives in the documentary series "Up and Away."
