And in this home, preparation begins early. Before the sun had fully risen, Mom was already in the kitchen. Bread dough was mixed by hand and left to rise. Then came the poppy seed roll — warm milk, yeast, soft dough rolled thin, filled with sweet poppy seed paste, rolled and wrapped in baking paper, left to rest before the oven 🍞 While the rolls were rising, a pot of their favourite porridge with milk was already simmering on the stove — the kind of breakfast that warms you on a cold spring morning ☀️ Then the serious work began. 🥩 Mom started preparing the meat for Easter — slicing, trimming, organising with the patience and precision that comes from years of practice. Their cat was right beside her the whole time — watching every piece of meat with great interest and making his feelings known very loudly. He made everyone laugh. Mince for cutlets was prepared — pork, onion, garlic, all passed through the meat grinder and mixed by hand. A marinade was prepared — water, salt, pepper, bay leaf — and a beautiful piece of meat went into the fridge to rest overnight 🌿 Then came the homemade sausage. 🥩 Together, mother and son worked at the meat grinder — she seasoned the filling with garlic, salt and pepper, he fed it into the special sausage attachment. One tray filled, then another. The kitchen was full of warmth, laughter and the smell of something real. Before the second batch of sausage went into the oven, they stopped to eat. The marinated meat — still warm — was sliced and shared at the table. Their cat received his share too, of course. A glass of wine. Simple food.
