I'm Finally Enjoying Art Because I Understood These 5 Things

For a long time, I thought enjoying art would come after I became good enough. After my drawings looked the way I wanted. After I stopped making obvious mistakes. After I reached some imaginary level where I could finally call myself an artist. The strange thing is, the more I chased that feeling, the more frustrated I became. Recently I made a mistake near the end of a drawing that would have ruined my entire day in the past. This time I just smiled and kept going. In this video, I talk about five things I have slowly come to accept about making art. Some of them are uncomfortable. You may never draw exactly like your favorite artist. You may never become one of the greats. You may be terrible at something the first hundred times you try it. And maybe that's completely okay. Because I think a lot of us have spent so much time trying to become amazing at things that we never stop to ask a much simpler question: Do I actually enjoy doing this? I'm still figuring that out myself.
