1995-08-17 Michael Jackson chats online with fans (Simulchat) #HIStory25

On the evening of August 17th 1995, Michael Jackson gave his first cyberchat to fans. The so-called "Simulchat" brought together users of American internet providers Compuserve, America Online, Prodigy and the Internet Relay Chat (IRC) to simultaniously submit questions. MTV (USA) also televised a live transcript of the chat. Over 16,000 people attended the chat on America Online alone. The event took place in the boardroom of The Museum Of Television & Radio in midtown Manhattan. Michael was seated at the long boardroom table surrounded by representatives from all of the online services - who were seated in front of their laptops dialed-in to their respective services. Questions were selected on a 'round-robin' basis from each of the services, Michael would answer the questions, and the representatives would type his answers back to their service.
