MC-21 to Land Safely, Even After PD-14 Engine Failure

Russia has introduced a significant new safety enhancement for its next-generation MC-21 passenger aircraft. Engineers at the Moscow Institute of Electromechanics and Automation have developed a patented runway-direction control system that helps the aircraft remain aligned with the runway centerline even if one PD-14 engine fails during landing. The new software automatically adjusts spoiler deployment after touchdown, assisting pilots in maintaining directional control during some of aviation's most demanding conditions, including strong crosswinds and icy runways. Simulation results indicate that runway deviation can be reduced dramatically, potentially lowering the risk of runway excursions while also reducing pilot workload.
