No todos los que salimos de la cárcel somos malos, ni queremos salir a delinquir -Juan Manuel Bayona

Juan Manuel Bayona spent more than twelve years in prison, and during that time, he lost much more than his freedom: in addition to watching a degenerative disease deteriorate his vision, Juan Manuel lost his wife and children, left behind the life he knew, and had to learn to survive in a world that operates under rules completely different from those we know. However, what happens next? What happens when a person completes their sentence, leaves prison, and discovers that the punishment didn't end with the sentence? In this week's episode, Juan Manuel shares part of his story: a childhood marked by abandonment, the losses he faced, the visual impairment he suffers, the time he spent in prison, the responsibility he assumed when facing the consequences of his actions, and, above all, the possibility of rebuilding his life. A profoundly human episode that invites us to remember that life is rarely black and white. That behind those deprived of their freedom lie stories, contexts, pain, and also genuine desires to transform, repair, and start anew. Because not everyone who gets out of prison wants to reoffend. Many are simply looking for a second chance. And perhaps one of the most important questions this conversation leaves us with is how willing we are, as a society, to believe that a human being can be so much more than the worst mistake they've made… because a society that believes in justice also has to ask itself questions about reintegration. About forgiveness. About opportunities. And about what we do with those who try to start over. If you've ever wondered if a person can change, if a decision defines an entire life, or if we all deserve a second chance, this episode is for you. *🎥 ABOUT LATENTE* Latente is a space to listen to the voices of people who are living or have lived in prison.
