Environmental activist Luis María Jiménez reported that, despite the closure of a mine in Las Tapias in November 2025, truck traffic and explosions continue to be reported in the area. The Permanent Assembly for the Environment maintains that the closure has not yet been definitively ratified and warns of the possible illegal reopening of the mining project. Furthermore, they criticized a municipal and police operation during a peaceful demonstration, which they described as an act of intimidation.
