Traveling for Soup⁉️🤔 Sopa da Pedra in Almeirim Better Be Worth It🇵🇹

Hello Amigos and Amigas in this beautiful day!🫡 Long time no see👀 Well, here we are😁 Today we are going outside of Cascais to Almeirim. In the charming town of Portugal, we had the chance to try some incredible local dishes that highlight the region's culinary traditions. We started with Sopa da Pedra, or "stone soup," a dish with a lot of history. Legend has it that a monk began the tradition by adding a stone to his pot to convince locals to contribute ingredients. The result? A hearty soup filled with beans, potatoes, chouriço, pork, onions, garlic, and aromatic herbs like coriander. The flavors blend beautifully for a warm, comforting dish that’s a must-try in this region. Next, we enjoyed lagartos de porco, which translates to "pork lizards." Don't worry—no lizards involved! These are actually tender strips of pork, often cut from the flavorful neck or loin. The meat is seasoned simply with salt, garlic, and sometimes paprika, then grilled to juicy perfection over charcoal. Served with crispy fries or with migas(Spoiler: we don't like migas😁), this is Portuguese comfort food at its best. For dessert, we couldn’t resist pudim de laranja, a traditional orange pudding. Made with fresh orange juice, eggs, sugar, and a touch of butter, this dessert is baked slowly in a water bath to achieve its smooth, custard-like texture. The citrusy flavor is refreshing and perfectly balances the sweetness. This meal gave us a true taste of Almeirim’s culinary story, showcasing simple, high-quality ingredients transformed into unforgettable dishes.
