A Christmas song - Arthur McBride (Traditional Irish)
The great traditional Irish anti-recruitment ballad, Arthur McBride (a.k.a. ‘The Recruiting Sergeant’) The reference to France might make one think it dates from the Napoleonic Wars (1793 – 1815), but apparently the song is even older. The most famous version, and the one followed here, is the one revived by Paul Brady.
