Schefflera is a plant from the Araliaceae family. It grows well in bright, diffused light, but can also thrive in slightly darker locations. It doesn't like strong sunlight. With age, its shoots become woody, developing a bushy-tree-like habit. Its large, umbrella-shaped leaves add to its charm; some varieties also feature a beautiful creamy-yellow variegation. Like any plant, schefflera should be repotted after purchase. It grows well in general-purpose potting mix loosened with perlite or vermiculite. It can be propagated by dividing established plants or by stem cuttings. Water schefflera when the potting mix is ​​dry throughout (if using a soil hygrometer, water at the 3-meter mark). Schefflera can be attacked by spider mites, thrips, and mealybugs, especially if grown in areas with low humidity, so it should be regularly inspected for these pests. If it is overwatered or has too dense, impermeable soil, it is prone to bacterial rot and fungal diseases. Diffuse brown spots appear on its leaves. Schefflera is a relatively easy plant to grow and requires little care, but it is important to maintain an adequate water supply and inspect for pests.
