On découvre le Maroc du terroir (et des canyons secrets)

After falling in love with Morocco's Atlantic coast all the way to El Jadida, we made a big decision: to escape the hustle and bustle of major cities like Casablanca and head inland towards the Mediterranean. Aboard our Opel Vivaro campervan (our trusty Victor), we embarked on a memorable journey through rural Morocco. While the first few kilometers through the wheat fields of the plains were a bit monotonous, the trip took a magical turn with our first stops off the beaten track. From the historical wonder of the Kasba Tadla fortress ruins to the vibrant atmosphere of the villages of Zaouiat and Azrou just after the Eid celebrations, we immersed ourselves in the heart of authentic Morocco. It was an opportunity for us to take stock of van life in Morocco, from incredible campsites among flocks of sheep near Khenifra to moments of local life, not forgetting a little botanical exploration to uncover the secrets of Moroccan nature. The highlight of this episode awaited us near Missour. Settling in for the night in a dry riverbed, surrounded by spectacular canyons that rival Cappadocia in Turkey, we experienced the magic of pure Moroccan hospitality. An unforgettable encounter with a family enjoying a picnic transformed our campsite into a moment of shared culinary delight. The road then continued through a vast and isolated mountainous desert, devoid of cell service or electricity, before finally ending in Debdou. An intense, authentic, and eventful journey!
