Mujer, Indígena y lideresa transformacional | Aura Leticia Teleguario | TEDxLlorenteWomen
A crisis is an opportunity when we seek the strategies and mechanisms to transform it. Aura Leticia Teleguario, an Indigenous Guatemalan woman and survivor of the armed conflict, tells us about the path she forged to turn her difficult circumstances into new opportunities. Aura Leticia Teleguario Sincal is Guatemalan, Maya Kaqchikel, with a bachelor's and master's degree in Business Administration. She has postgraduate degrees in Public Administration, Leadership, Innovation, Gender, Youth, and Multiculturalism. She is currently part of the Political and Public Leadership, Economic Opportunities, and Human Rights program at Vital Voices Washington. She speaks Kaqchikel (a Mayan language), Spanish, and English. She is currently a Special Advisor on Inter-Agency, Public, and Corporate Relations at UN Women. She is a member of the Advisory Board of Plan International and Vital Voices Guatemala. She is also part of the Central American Leadership Initiative of the Aspen Institute and the Latin American Alumni Network of Georgetown University. She is a national and international consultant on issues related to the rights of Indigenous peoples, economic empowerment, migration, nutrition, employment, social security, education, and the rights of youth and women. In January 2016, she assumed the position of Minister of Labor and Social Welfare, becoming the first Indigenous woman in Guatemalan history to be appointed to this ministry. It is important to note that due to the current situation in Guatemala, she resigned from her ministerial post in September 2018. For twenty-two years, she worked for various programs of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United States Embassy in Guatemala. Her last position was as Advisor on Indigenous Peoples' Issues, where she promoted programs that contributed to the country's comprehensive and inclusive development. As a leader, professional, and Indigenous woman, her experience and impact in the public, economic, and social sectors have earned her national and international recognition. (Estrategia y Negocios de C.A. Magazine) Look Magazine has recognized her as one of the 26 leading women in Central America and the 12 most influential in Guatemala. Her vision is to contribute to making Guatemala and the countries of Latin America more prosperous, inclusive, just, equitable, and transparent. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
