Valle Vista to Banning via Idyllwild in California

We take the scenic route from Valle Vista to Banning in California. We start by heading east on California SR 74. We head up a scenic canyon and navigate a series of switchbacks to reach the town of Mountain Center. We then get on California SR 243 and head toward Idyllwild. We encounter a forested landscape covered with several inches of snow from a recent storm. The road winds through the hills, reaching an elevation of over 6000 feet before making a dramatic descent into the town of Banning. The section of road between Mountain Center and Banning is part of the Palms to Pines Scenic Byway. Another section of this byway runs from Palm Desert to Mountain Center.
