Casio VX-4 Repair – Repair of two Casio VX-4 Pokecoms from Japan. Can we save them both?
Video sponsor: PCBWay: $5 for 2 layer PCBs with 24hr turnaround at https://www.pcbway.com/ In this episode we dig into the two Casio VX-4 ‘Pokecoms’ that we arrived from Japan in out last video. Both have had battery leakage one powered up with a missing row in the LCD. The other was dead to the world. Part of the risk of buying ‘junk’ units from Japan is that they are truly junk and won’t be able to be repaired. It is still fun to dig into this Japanese market only units and see what makes them tick. Hopefully we’ll be able to fix them too. What horrors lurk beneath? Timeline: 00:00 – Welcome 01:14 – Teardown on VX-4 #1 05:25 – Main PCB and battery box refurb 06:57 – Main PCB reassembly 08:30 – LCD and KB PCB evaluation 10:10– LCD PCB repair 12:15 – Reassembly of whole unit 13:04 – Can we polish plastic? 16:47 – Teardown on VX-4 #2 22:36 – Wrap up.
