Green, a Georgia native who grew up in the Bronx, recalled his youth in a rough neighborhood, which led to his involvement with the notorious Black Spades gang. When asked about the name "Blood," Green explained it was a nickname from his fighting days and life in the streets. By 17, he was shot twice, once in the head, a life-threatening experience that he miraculously survived with no severe injuries. This close call with death proved to be a turning point, pushing Green towards boxing, a sport where he notably excelled, winning the Golden Gloves four times before turning professional in 1980. Green's boxing career was marked by significant achievements, including being spotlighted by NBC as one of "tomorrow's champions" and managed by Carl King, son of the legendary promoter Don King.
