Historia de la navegación
Manuel Delgado and Diego González, first-year Baccalaureate students at the Rafael Arozarena High School in La Orotava, Tenerife, presented the first part of their lecture, "From Compass to GPS," as part of the Orotava Foundation's "Exploring Science in Action" project. The students, who were then in their fourth year of ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education), participated in the research experience for several months under the guidance of coordinator Jesús Reyes. Their motivation: to satisfy their curiosity and learn based on the question, "How does GPS work?" But they went beyond that, contextualizing the topic by starting with the origins of navigation and the need to position ships on a map, thus tracing a thread that leads from antiquity to the present day. The excellent result was two lectures, or rather, one lecture in two parts: this first on the history of navigation and a second on the operation of satellite positioning systems, such as GPS. Enjoy both, and if you are a 4th-year ESO student and live in La Orotava, we encourage you to participate in future editions of "Exploring Science in Action." https://fundacionorotava.org/ All conferences held at the Orotava Foundation during the 2025-26 academic year: ● XXXV OROTAVA SEMINAR https://fundacionorotava.org/activida... ● THE SPANISH REPUBLICAN EXILE IN MEXICO https://fundacionorotava.org/activida... ● CONFERENCE ON THE ORIGIN OF LIFE (COMING SOON) The Orotava Canary Islands Foundation for the History of Science is a non-profit organization that operates under the patronage of the Canary Islands Government's Ministry of Education, the La Orotava Town Council, the Tenerife Island Council, and the University of La Laguna.
