Connectivity between Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has received a historic boost with two major projects. The final breakthrough of the strategically important 13.15-kilometer-long Zojila Tunnel, being built at an altitude of 11,578 feet, was completed on June 9, 2026. It will provide an all-weather connection between Kashmir and Ladakh, reducing the three-hour journey to just 15 to 20 minutes. The opening of this single-tube, bi-directional tunnel will ensure seamless traffic flow even during winter, a major step forward for tourism, trade, and strategic security. Meanwhile, the Vande Bharat Express service between Jammu and Srinagar has reduced travel time from 10-12 hours to approximately five hours.
