Jaw Switching - Tongue Blocking Technique for Irish Harmonica Tunes
Jaw Switching - Tongue Blocking Technique for Irish Harmonica Tunes. Jaw Switching is a technique that is similar to tongue switching. I often use the two techniques together to play difficult Irish tunes that require a lot of moving around the harmonica. They are powerful tools for emulating the sound of a fiddle and playing certain difficult passages fast and in a smooth, legato fashion. In this video I use two Irish tunes, Drowsy Maggie and the Mooncoin Jig, to demonstrate ways to use jaw switching and how it can be used alongside the more well known technique of tongue switching. Harmonica for the Soul is the channel of Nick Jackman, a harmonica player, multi-instrumentalist and one-man-band from New Zealand. Subscribe to this channel if you play harmonica and want to learn about American folk, blues and roots, traditional Irish and Scottish folk, tongue-blocking techniques, or how to play guitar and “hands-free” neck rack harmonica together.
