Omri Boehm, "Can We Imagine a Day After? Some Fears and Hopes"

Omri Boehm — Associate Professor of Philosophy at The New School for Social Research — presents "Can We Imagine a Day After? Some Fears and Hopes". Introduction and moderation by Alex Aleinikoff, Dean and University Professor, The New School for Social Research. Hamas' attack of October 7th launched the region from one historical moment to the next. Just as Israel's rule of law came under an attack from within, perpetrated by the extreme right, a heinous attack on Israel's civilian population came from without — and, yet, from a territory with an elusive relation to Israeli sovereignty. The two events belong together, in an unfolding logic of total war that is forced on the region by a post-two state reality. How can we begin to imagine the day after? An initial attempt to sketch some hopes and fears. This event took place on December 6, 2023. ** Omri Boehm joined the NSSR Philosophy department in 2010. He teaches and writes on early modern philosophy and philosophy of religion, with a specific focus on Descartes, Spinoza and Kant. His books include "The Binding of Isaac: A Religious Model of Disobedience" (Continuum, 2007), "Kant’s Critique of Spinoza" (Oxford University Press, 2014), "Haifa Republic: A Democratic Future for Israel" (Penguin Random House, 2021), and Radikaler Universalismus (Propyläen, 2022). In addition to his academic publications, he has also written for outlets including the LA Review of Books and the New York Times. ** Visit The New School for Social Research: https://www.newschool.edu/nssr/ See our upcoming events: https://www.newschool.edu/nssr/events/
