And my hangout buddy this time is a director and radio broadcast buddy from my days at Hard Rock FM. This is the director nicknamed "Indonesia's Christopher Nolan," aka Joko Anwar! I finally met up again after last seeing Uncle Joko in 2017, and now we can finally hang out and chat again. Before we talk about his films, which people say always have open endings, Joko Anwar and I wanted to chat about our radio broadcasting days. Joko Anwar was a regular guest announcer at Hard Rock FM with my friend, Andira Pramanta. And for me, listening to Joko Anwar and Andira on air was hilarious and incredibly entertaining. Hanging out with Joko Anwar wouldn't be complete without talking about his films. From "Joni's Promise" to his latest film, "Ghost in the Cell." I also talked about Joko Anwar's favorite actors, Tara Basro, Fachri Albar, Ario Bayu, and Rio Dewanto, all of whom I mentioned earlier. I also asked Uncle Joko why he prefers making horror films these days. Speaking of Joko Anwar's films, I was really curious about which of his films were screened abroad. I was more curious about the regulations governing Indonesian films being screened abroad. And after our conversation, it turned out that Joko Anwar's films have been screened in 28 countries. Pretty crazy, right? Not only did we talk about films and his world, but while hanging out with Joko Anwar, I also talked about music. Because in "Janji Joni," Joko Anwar's first film as a director, he involved Jakarta's indie music scene for the original soundtrack, including The Adams, Sore, White Shoes & the Couples Company, and many more. The songs in "Janji Joni" were quite the talk of the town at the time. I also asked about Joko Anwar's method of producing films, which he famously coined "healthy filming." When we talked about his production methods, he noted that Joko Anwar not only wanted healthy filming, but also humanized people. That's why he only shoots five hours per day, whenever possible. And from there, I learned a lot about Joko Anwar's method of filmmaking, maximizing the use of those five hours. I also discussed Joko Anwar's feelings after being roasted by the comedians, and Om Joko's views on Indonesian films that have become masters in their own country, even surpassing foreign films in terms of viewership, such as "Agak Laen." I also talked about conspiracy theories about aliens, lizard people, and dragons. And one more hilarious topic was Aldi Taher's behavior, who likes to DM Joko Anwar to get him to act in films. This Aldi's Burger entrepreneur is truly a genius! It wasn't just chatting and laughing when I hung out with Joko Anwar. I also learned a lot from Om Joko.
