Today’s episode will be dedicated to Firefly, a seven-map challenge wad released by Eater29 in 2024. Firefly was originally conceived as a Stardate 20x6 homage complete with green-to-purple palette swaps, but became a predominantly orange set after Eater had to choose a new theme to accommodate RAMP 2023, to which this set’s MAP01 was also submitted. After the standalone Mudman, Firefly was Eater29’s debut project, which makes the virtuosity of its combat and art direction all the more impressive. This is the fruit of a generation raised on optimized slaughter and high-performance visuals, and it makes its inspirations and target audience clear from the word go.
