Ren “Halftime” Retake Reaction | He Flipped Nas And Made It His Own

The Ren journey continues on CJ’s Corner / The Reaction, and today we are finally jumping into Ren — Halftime Retake. Before this reaction, I went back and revisited Nas — Halftime so I could hear the original foundation first. Just like we did with Bob Marley and I Shot The Sheriff, I wanted to respect the original before seeing how Ren flips it in his own way. And Ren definitely flipped it. In this reaction, I talk about the classic boom-bap feel, the old-school Halftime energy, the beat changes, the electric guitar in the background, and how Ren keeps the foundation of the original while still making it sound like him. The wordplay in this one caught me off guard. Lines like “pimping my pain” and “pressure makes a rhyming diamond” stood out because they connect back to what I’ve been learning about Ren’s story — the illness, the pain, the internal fight, and how he turns all of that into art. I also respect how Ren gives flowers to the legends and fallen artists. He shows love to the people who came before him while still proving he can stand on the beat himself. That is what hip-hop is supposed to be: confidence, respect, creativity, and skill. This was a hip-hop reaction, a music breakdown, and another step deeper into the Ren rabbit hole. Make sure you like, comment, subscribe, and let me know where we should go next. Should we get into Money Game, another Ren retake, more reggae, R&B, acoustic, or something completely different from Ren?
