In 1915, when British officers struggled with Mumbai’s humid weather, a solution was proposed – build a beautiful road along the sea to enjoy cool breezes. But the question was – who would make it happen? Enter Nanasaheb Modak, who led the town planning and construction of Marine Drive, from Nariman Point to Girgaon Chowpatty. The project began on 18th December 1915 and was completed by 1920. Post-independence, it was renamed as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Marg, but to Mumbaikars, it always remained Marine Drive.
