BIU KO SUVA -BIGWILZ

One of the many classics composed by the late Percy Bucknell. Mr Bucknell from Nailaga Ba, was ship engineer and sailed mostly between Suva and Labasa in the early 60's and 70's. He was known to carry his ukulele around with him wherever he went, and would write his songs on his experiences out at sea or in port. Story is that the inspiration for Biu ko Suva nikua was came when boarding in Suva for one of those trips, he witnessed 2 young lovers bidding farewell to each other at the wharf. And as he saw the yearning in the young mans heart as they sailed out pass the Suva passage and than around Laucala way on they're 1 week journey to vanualevu, he put himself into the young mans mind and visualised what he must've been going through in this lyrical masterpiece. And as a fellow composer I could almost feel what he was feeling. Leaving Suva today Oh my sweet beautiful bride I wish I could live in your beautiful presence Farewell my love , farewell As the waves and the ocean air engulfs me My love is safe and at peace in Suva I long that you would ascend back into my arms I almost leaped into the sea (maybe to swim back to suva?) And as dawn breaks Suva is shrouded in morning mist in far off the horizon (they were probably out of Naselai and looking back towards the Tailevu coast by now) I long for your face as you awake And the thought of you shatters me into pieces My request to you my love That you will always remember our time together Please don't forget it...but cherish it forever And let the ash's of our time be mine forever Wow.....vinavalevu Koicalevu na here Totoka
