📍This time, it's a world first! Thai Honda has launched the ‘Honda UC3,’ a new dimension in electric motorcycles never before seen in Thailand. Why is it unprecedented in Thailand? Let's take a look. This model is designed under the concept of “The Urban First Movers: The first step…that changes the old way of life.” It features a cutting-edge, futuristic design, developed to meet the lifestyle needs of urban dwellers and is environmentally friendly. The reason I say this is a first in Thailand is because, normally, we are familiar with existing electric motorcycles and battery swapping stations, which are mostly used for rental services. But this time, Honda is serious about preparing for the long-term use of electric motorcycles. Thai Honda has developed the Honda EV Charger, or plug-in electric motorcycle charging stations, and has opened the first one at CentralWorld, with plans to expand stations to other locations to support customers this year and in the future. It's safe to say that such an undertaking would not be possible without serious planning and long-term commitment, as it requires significant investment. By 2026, Honda aims to have 230 charging stations in operation, covering Bangkok and its surrounding areas at Central shopping malls and Lotus department stores nationwide. Additionally, there will be 915 service charging stations at Honda Wing Centers across the country. By 2029, or within four years, Honda EV Charger stations will cover the entire country, reaching 800 stations. The UC3 is Honda's first model to use a plug-in charging system and comes with a 450-watt portable charger that can be plugged directly into a household electrical outlet. A completely depleted battery will take approximately 9 hours to fully charge, but in real-world use, no one will drive until the battery is at 0%. Therefore, if the battery isn't completely empty, charging time will be reduced. For example, it can be charged from 30% to 80% in just 4 hours. It's powered by a 6 kWh electric motor working in conjunction with a Lithium-ion LFP battery that meets the international UNR136 standard, ensuring reliable operation in urban areas. It can travel up to 122 kilometers on a single charge and has a top speed of 80 kilometers per hour. It features three riding modes to suit different driving conditions. For fuel efficiency, choose Econ mode. Standard mode offers just the right amount of power for everyday use. For maximum responsiveness, switch to Sport mode, which delivers exhilarating acceleration comparable to a 250cc bike. It's incredibly powerful; you could practically do a wheelie if you twisted the throttle! Another feature I appreciate is Honda's ability to switch modes even while moving. This design allows for both fuel efficiency and responsive power. For example, if I'm in fuel-efficient mode and need to overtake, I can simply release the throttle, switch to Sport mode, and accelerate. Once overtaken, I can switch back to Econ mode. The only requirement for switching modes is that you must release the throttle first. This allows for better energy management, resulting in both fuel efficiency and responsive power. Additionally, it features a Reverse Assist Function. Honda has designed this reverse system to be safe, preventing accidental use. To use the reverse function, you must press the "R" button on the right, and then press the "R" switch on the left again. This makes reversing into parking spaces easy and convenient, especially when reversing uphill or with a heavy load. The LED headlights are designed with an integrated light bar and daytime running lights that blend seamlessly with the turn signals. When the turn signals are not in use, they are white, but when activated, they change to a beautiful orange, enhancing visibility while driving. The 5-inch TFT display shows comprehensive driving information and supports Honda RoadSync connectivity. It's easy to use via the multifunction controller. Another feature I really like is that electric motorcycles usually have limited under-seat storage space due to battery capacity, but this model has a large storage area big enough to fit a helmet. The key is a Honda SMART KEY remote, allowing you to start the car without a physical key. There's a USB Type-C charging port in the front storage compartment.
