While they learn to adapt to stable life, it is very important to exercise them to meet their physical needs. A horse will feel bored and sad if it does not have the regular company of humans and other horses. While there is no exact requirement for the amount of pasture needed for horses, it is generally considered that one hectare of pasture per horse is sufficient. This area should always be inspected to avoid potential hazards such as litter in the pasture or holes in the fence, among others. In addition, the area should be checked weekly for poisonous plants such as yew, nightshade, ragwort, foxglove, buttercups, oak leaves and acorns, ferns, bay, privet, meadow saffron, castor oil plant, locust bean, horsetail, star thistle, and sorghum. The pasture must be fenced, of course, to prevent your horse from escaping or being injured. For this, you can use smooth wire secured to strong wooden posts; barbed wire is never recommended. Your horse also needs a shelter to protect it from the wind, rain, and sun. A natural grove provides good shade, but for protection from wind and rain, a three-sided shed works best.
