Tour por Tempos Vega Sicilia y cata guiada de Macán, Pintia y Único con Gonzalo Iturriaga | Ep.15
🎙️ Vins Des Dieux Podcast #15 | Vega Sicilia In this episode, we sit down with Gonzalo Iturriaga, technical director of Vega Sicilia, for a relaxed conversation about one of the most unique projects in Spanish wine. Vega Sicilia has been doing things its own way for over 160 years (founded in 1864). Único is released when it's ready, not when it suits the calendar. Pintia brought that philosophy to Toro. Macán was born from an alliance with the Rothschilds in Rioja. And Mandolás is the group's flagship wine, from Tokaj (Hungary), through its Oremus winery. We talk about what it means to maintain that approach generation after generation, how decisions are made at a winery where time is measured differently, and what each of the group's projects has in common and what sets it apart. And at the end, four glasses of wine. Mandolás 2023, Pintia, Único, and Macán 2021 on the table. An episode with great depth and four wines that speak for themselves. ────────────────────────────── WINES MENTIONED OR TASTED · Mandolás 2023 — a dry white wine made with Furmint grapes in Tokaj, Hungary, by Oremus, the Hungarian winery of the Tempos Vega Sicilia group. The group's commitment to white wine, a pioneer in the region for dry wines. · Pintia — Toro. Tempranillo (Tinta de Toro) from sandy soils and an extreme climate. The group's project in one of the most demanding DOs (Designations of Origin) in Castile and León. Valbuena 5º Año — Ribera del Duero. The purest expression of Tinto Fino at Vega Sicilia. Five years of aging before release and a true reflection of the winery's style. Macán 2021 — Rioja. A joint project between Tempos Vega Sicilia and the Benjamin de Rothschild family. Tempranillo from vineyards around San Vicente de la Sonsierra (Rioja Alta), with a winery in Samaniego (Rioja Alavesa). ─────────────────────────────── ABOUT THE PODCAST The Vins Podcast is the podcast of Vins Des Dieux.
